This will be the first Super Bowl with both starting quarterbacks having beards. Abraham Lincoln would be proud. With the game in Jerry Jones' climate controlled palace weather will not be a factor. Hopefully a punter will hit the giant television above the field. The look on Jerry's face would be priceless. I'm sure there will be betting action on that happening. There will be lots of punting since both teams have outstanding defenses and allowed the fewest points in the NFL this season. They also have two players with the longest hair in Super Bowl history in Troy Polamalu and Clay Matthews. I'm thinking there are going to be a couple of hair product commercials.

I'm going to start with the Packers. They have had a wonderful season in spite of having 16 players on injured reserve, many of whom were key starters. The injured players recently made a name for themselves by whining I mean tweeting about not being included in the Super Bowl team photo. Which they are, hopefully it won't have any effect on the game. The Packers have had many back-ups and guys signed off the streets and Target step up and be productive for them. None was bigger than running back James Starks who while drafted in the later rounds, was on the practice squad for most of the season. He has been solid since being inserted as the starter. He has provided the offense with balance with his ability to run between the tackles and keeping Aaron Rodgers out of third long. Also and more importantly he has not coughed up the football. Aaron Rodgers has been terrific all year and should have made the Pro bowl. But he wouldn't have gone since he is going to a slightly more significant bowl. He has played himself to elite quarterback status. It also helps that he has had a top defense league behind him. This allowed him to play free and easy and not have the pressure to force passes to score lot of points, like his predecessor Brett Farve. (I just had to get his name in one last time) The reason for concern is the inexperience of the Packers in the Super Bowl. None of the players or coaches has participated in the Super Bowl. There is something to said to know to how to answer the same inane questions over and over again. Like "What did you eat for breakfast today?" The coaches have to make sure to achieve the balance of enjoying the festivities, because you never know if and when the team will get back to the Super Bowl. They have to make sure that the Packers get there work in and not spend too much time in the many local professional adult ladies dance studios. The good thing for the Packers is the game is played on field turf, which after playing in the sloppy Soldiers' field this will be a Texas air conditioned breeze. The Packers play in Green Bay and on the legendary "frozen tundra." But this team is built for artificial surfaces with their passing ability, speedy receivers, and speedy pass rushers. The Steelers could be in a little shock in the first few possessions when they see firsthand how fast the Packers are. Of course they won't be too fast if they spend too much time enjoying the adult attractions.

The Steelers have overcame not having Ben Roethisberger, who was suspended for the first month of the season to start the season and an often injured offensive line to make the Super Bowl. They have made the Super Bowl in the typical Steelers' way. A magnificent and the most fined defense. A punishing ground game, which has been a trademark since the Nixon administration and clutch quarter backing. Big Ben spins out of sacks so often he looks like a father playing with his kids. Rashard Mendenhall has improved in each year and this year has been his best. He possesses power, speed and balance of a dancer. He can run over tacklers as well as run away from them. There defense has survived injuries to the defensive line but the backups have done a nice job of filling in. The strength of the defense is their linebackers who are talented, smart and mean as hell linebacker James Harrision who get many personal fouls by his stare alone. Troy Polamalu is not nearly as mean as James Harrision but is as just as disruptive and has to be accounted for at all times, even during warm ups. The reason for concerned has to be their best offensive lineman and center Markice Pouncey will be out with a sprained or broken bone ankle. (My first mention ever of a center.) No one knows how valuable centers until there is a fumbled snap or the long snapper air mails a snap into the river. Backup center Doug Legursky did a good job against the Jets when Pouncey went down, but the Packers will have two weeks to figure out a way to test him out. They also have a 325 pound nose tackle who is quick, smart, has good hands and extremely difficult to move. The positive for the Steelers is that they have experience in the playing in Super Bowls with this being their 3rd appearance in the last six years. To them this will be just another game except for the two hour half time show and the gigantic overhead television.

I am looking forward to an entertaining game, funny commercials, and Fergie not so much as flashing a toe nail during the halftime show. So for my readers enjoy the game and good luck in whatever betting pool you are in.
