While American football traces its roots back to the 1800s, the list of Super Bowl winners doesn't span nearly that far back in history. Walter Camp's game did take off like wildfire on college campuses all over the country shortly after its inception, but it wasn't until 1967 that the first professional-level championship matchup was staged. That very first game between the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum would launch a tradition that has nearly become a sanctioned holiday in America.

The very first winner, the Green Bay Packers, took the first two titles and ran with them. Of course, the Arizona Cardinals will be gunning to prevent this and add their team name to the list of Super Bowl winners.

Those who have had the honor of being on the list of Super Bowl winners have earned the pleasure of taking home not only the World Championship title, fancy rings and tons of prestige, but also the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Originally called the World Championship Game Trophy, it was renamed in 1970 in honor of Green Bay Packers' head coach Vince Lombardi following his death to cancer.
