Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This will be his first action since breaking his rib in the first game of the season.
The ribs have not completely healed as they still cause discomfort, and McNabb will wear protective padding to help lessen the blows. Laughing, coughing, sneezing, or sleeping on his side still bothers his ribs. Even sitting or standing for long periods of time causes pain. McNabb expects it will be another 2-4 weeks before his ribs are 100% healthy.
McNabb practiced on Wednesday and will play in the game with running back Michael Westbrook. Westbrook missed the Eagles' last game due to a knee injury.
McNabb will also have Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick backing him up. Kolb was the first NFL quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards in his first two starts while McNabb was out, so it appears that if McNabb goes down again, the Eagles will be in good hands.
Michael Vick and cable channel BET are working on a 2010 documentary on Vick's imprisonment and entry back into the NFL after serving time for animal cruelty. The documentary was started when Vick was sent to prison for 18 months for his role in dog fighting.
The Eagles say that they don't have a specific number of plays that Michael Vick will run in this week's game. It appears that Vick is working off some of the rust and is returning to his athletic form that dazzled so many opponents and fans years ago. This game will be the first regular season game that McNabb and Vick will play in together.
