Green Bay Packers’ fans have something to cheer about this
season. Their star quarterback, Brett Favre has decided to not to
retire and is all set to return for his 17th NFL season in 2007. Favre
announced his decision to return to NFL in an interview to the Sun
Herald. Favre seemed to be pretty excited about returning to pro
football and was eager to play alongside his talented and much younger
teammates. More than anybody, Favre’s decision brought
cheer to Packers’ general manager Ted Thompson. Favre’s return means
that Packers would have chances of making it to the playoffs. Favre
did not fare so well in the 2005 season. However, in the 2006 season,
he had 18 touchdown passes with 18 interceptions. If this form
continues in 2007, the Packers’ would be definite contenders for the
playoffs. Favre also seems to be personally confident about his own
ability and believes that he can still contribute significantly to the
team’s fortunes in the next season. After playing 16 full seasons in
NFL, Favre does not think he is too old. Favre is unarguably one
the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He holds the record for completing
most number of passes and had 237 consecutive regular season starts. A
good performance this season could be beneficial for Favre on an
individual level. It can place him on the list of 5 best quarterbacks
of all time. He needs 2 wins to surpass John Elway for the most wins by
a quarterback and 7 touchdowns passes to break the record of Dan Marino
record.
